Another brick in the Wall

Misery decided to take Hermann to visit Winnie the Pooh, Heffalump, Piglet and Eeyore at the city library, but they did not answer the door.  Hermann said they should have announced themselves in advance, as Winnie would be so busy meeting new friends.

Maybe they were out given it was a Sunday, so Misery said he will take Herman back another day.  Hermann was disappointed, so Misery decided to take the subway by the library to Wall Street,  and maybe across to the Statue of Liberty.  The train map was very confusing indeed, and they had to follow a  long underground passage to the orange line.  Hermann was too hot in Misery's sweaty pocket, and asked why the traverse could not have been made above ground. Misery said he had already paid to enter and was not paying $5 to go out and back in again at another entrance. They were both annoyed.

The platform was even hotter, but when the right train eventually arrived, Misery made another mistake and got off too soon. They transferred to the yellow line which Misery said would go to Bowling Green. The train driver had other plans and threw them off at Canal Street due to track maintenance. They boarded the brown line, but the driver threw them off again after one stop, due to track maintenance. They boarded the green line which finally took them to Wall Street, but they struggled to get out as most of the barriers were padlocked.  Hermann asked why they did not get the green line from Grand Central in the first Place?  Shut up Hermann and don't ask questions that Misery does not know the answers to!

Hermann was sent to Coventry, and had a seat on his own

Hermann was concerned Misery might crash at Wall Street as it was so hot in the subway.  they were glad to get out, but apparently the New York Stock Exchange is on Wall Street, but the front door is actually on Broad Street.

Hermann asked why the Broad Street Stock Exchange is not correctly named as Broad Street Stock Exchange, but Misery suggested that most of the deals were done around the back door in Wall Street in brown envelopes.

The subway at the stock exchange was fenced off together with the stock exchange. No wonder the subways were all closed.

Hermann asked if Misery had tuppence to feed the birds outside the stock exchange...He had no coins as the smallest usable unit of currency in bars and restaurants was $1 with everything else on a card.

They headed south, past a trader with a big cigar. Maybe a commodity trader?

to New York plaza which was swamped with Police.  Maybe this is why the subway was closed?

Misery spotted a nice Clipper at the Bowling Green. Hermann was still looking for the bowling green, but did spot a park where there might have been grass once upon a time.  However, Hermann was delighted to learn that Misery has been invited for a cruise on the clipper around Liberty Island.

Hermann likes cruises, and Misery agreed he could stow away, in the spectacle case again. He had heard there would be a canopy served on board, perhaps to keep him dry, which will be difficult as drinks shall be served with the canopy.  Maybe the onboard canopies will be like umbellas in a beer garden, but on deck? He will have to wait and see....

In the meantime, Misery headed towards the ferry...

....but the queue to get on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty was quite long, so Misery hurried along to try to get on the ferry.....

The queue on the otherside of the entrance was five times longer, and to join that queue Misery had to first have a ticket, and join another queue to buy the ticket.  Probably 1000 people in the queues, so the best option was to go back to the den, and book in advance.

They gave up and returned to the subway, this time taking the red line home on a very bent train  that squealed deafingly loudly as it crawled into the station, the wheels forced screamingly around a track that was too tight for the design of the train
